Healthy School Environment (7)
This year's Bushy Dash had a Halloween Theme. The main fundraiser for the PTA for the past three years! 100% of the money collected funds PTA activities and events - classroom enrichment, school assemblies, Family Fun events, and much more! Every student was be able to participate in the fundraiser and parents are invited to come and cheer on their child during their grade level special arts time on Thursday, October 24th. Students were sponsored to run or walk in the event and a great time was had by all. This is a healthy initiative and prevents the selling of products in the environment through other fundraisers such as selling wrapping paper. (2016, 615 students plus parents and teachers)

What & Why:
Walking Wednesdays is part of Bushy Park’s Health School initiative.Students have option to walk around a laid out part of the field during recess. They keep track of the number of laps they walk and volunteers record it on their index card. We keep track of all the laps they walk the entire year and give out awards for the students in each grade who walk the most as well as the grade the walks most! Its a great way to get the kids moving at recess!
Each week almost 150 students walk with about 10 parents volunteers. That's about 400 students a semester....about two thirds of our school population!
Staff Zumba Class
Join us for Weekly Wednesday (after-school) Zumba class and instructor. We're decked out to celebrate our last class before winter break with holiday hats and antlers. We have advertised in the Walk in the Park (BPES daily news) to encourage other staff to sign up and join us. The Zumba class runs year round and the instructor comes to our school every week. The attendees are teachers, special educators, para-educators, teaching assistants, OTs, speech-pathologists, etc.

"I am also including a picture of the light switches in my classroom. We only turn on one light each day in the classroom. This helps to save on energy and also it's just too bright for me to have all of the lights on." ~ Allison Stumpfl
